Summer is one of the most famous compositions by Hisaishi which is the score of Kikujiro (Kikujirō no Natsu or "Kikujirō's Summer") which is a 1999 Japanese film starring, written, and directed by Takeshi Kitano.

Lesser known are the other musical roles he plays; he is also a typesetter, author, arranger, and conductor.
