Xintianyou is a genre of folk songs in northern Shaanxi Province. Usually sung in open fields, it features melodious, sonorous tunes that are rich in variation, and sprightly lyrics that are freely composed. A xintianyou song is short and simple, sometimes with only one verse consisting of two lines.
